Hi gang. I just wanted to check in with everyone. Its been a tough day with the awful events at Virginia Tech. I thought it might be a good idea to do a brief post on the blog. Sometimes when things happen on other college campuses, it can seem to hit close to home even if its not our college, or a college where we have friends or not. I am not sure why that is, it just is sometimes. Maybe its because when you are in college, away from home, the safety net seems a little stretched thin.
How are you feeling about today?
When horrific events happen right in front of us, (and with the immediacy of news coverage everything seems to happen right in front of us regardless of where it happens), we are brought face to face with the brokenness of our world. There is so much capacity for love, and goodness, in the world, and in all of humanity, that it just doesn't make sense when such brokenness manifests itself, causing fear, pain, and hurt.
But, even in the darkest moments, we have the promise found in the beginning of John's Gospel, "The light shall always overcome the darkness."
There is a prayer in the Prayer Book (page 815), For the Human Family:
O God, you made us in your own image and redeemed us through Jesus your Son: Look with compassion on the whole human family; take away the arrogance and hatred which infect our hearts; break down the walls that separate us; unite us in bonds of love; and work through our struggle and confusion to accomplish your purposes one earth; than, in your good time, all nations and races may serve you in harmony around your heavenly throne, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
We should also keep in our prayers the students who were killed, and their families.
We should hold the other students and faculty at Virginia Tech in prayer as well.
Tell me how you are doing.
